A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck on Friday, October 30, 2020, about 14 km (8.7 mi) northeast of Samos. Many buildings were damaged or collapsed as a result of the earthquake, with the Church of the Virgin Mary in Karlovasi, Greece, partially collapsing, Emergency services in both Samos and Turkey immediately attended the scene, as rescue efforts continued into the night.
The earthquake is the deadliest of 2020 so far.
